Departed The Vineyard Today :(

We departed Marthas Vineyard this morning at 10:30CST and stopped over in Franklin, PA for a great lunch and then on West to Poplar Grove. It was a great day to aviate with the family. The picture is us departing out of the Marthas Vineyard airport:)

Last day in the vineyard. Spent the morning fishing with my little one. Beautiful day on the East coast. Off to Illinois tomorrow morning. The picture below is Main Street in Vineyard Haven this afternoon.

We arrived in Marthas Vineyard about 12:30 EST Friday 9-17-10, and it was a great flight above the cloud deck:) About an hour after we arrived into the vineyard, it started raining and poor visibility set in.

Weather has improved greatly from Akron, OH to Marthas Vineyard. Just West of the airport here they had tornadoes that tore apart schools, nurseries and barns. It was crazy, but N518JS was safe in a hangar. Looking at departing Akron to Marthas Vineyard between 8:00am-8:30am EST for the final 3 hour leg:)

Family Adventure To Martha's Vineyard

The family adventure to Martha's Vineyard will begin with a morning departure on September 16th, 2010 out of C77 with a stop over for lunch in Franklin, PA and then on into Martha's Vineyard. Total flying time will be about 5.5 hours, but we will take it very casually with the kids. We will be returning to C77 on September 19th or the 20th with the same route of flight most likely. Stay posted for more detail to follow. :)

Great tailwind flight today. I planned on stopping in KS, but I was using such little fuel, and had a great tailwind....so I continued home to C77 with an arrival of about 9:00pm CST. This is what flying is all about. More pictures and videos to come after some rest:)

It sure was exciting seeing Van Nuys come into sight.

Plan right now is to depart Van Nuys tomorrow and head East hopefully to Poplar Grove, IL C77 if weather cooperates. It is 9:00am PST in Van Nuys as I write this on Friday, and there are very low ceilings. Hopefully that will change by tomorrow morning.

Today's weather in Northern IL is awful. Rainy, cloudy, windy and highs only in the 50's. Tomorrows departure time is between 6am-7am. Originally I have marked Santa Fe, NM as the overnight stay, but may have to push that a little further West due to the potential of rain in New Mexico on Thursday for my departure to Van Nuys, CA. I will post the update in the morning:)

Getting Closer To The Adventure

Trip dates are now set, and the route is pretty well figured out depending on weather etc.. Departure will be on Wednesday, October 7th around 7:00am (cst), with an arrival in Garden City, KS around 11:00am (cst). The final leg for the day will be to Santa Fe, NM for the overnight. October 8th I will make the final leg to Van Nuys, CA. I changed the destination from Santa Monica to try and play it safer with the weather along the water. Hopefully all the mess with the fires will be over in the Los Angeles area:(

West Coast Flying Adventure:)

This week I have decided on the dates for my West Coast Flying Adventure, and preliminary fuel stops. The plan right now is to depart out of C77 early morning during the second week of October 2009. Fuel stop will be in Garden City, KS and then first night stay in Santa Fe, NM. The next day I will continue on to Santa Monica, CA. There will be a possible fuel stop in Big Bear City, CA. N518JS was based in Arizona in it's previous life with Steve and Joanna the first owners. I journeyed home with N518JS in October 2007 from Deer Valley Airport in Arizona. It will be exciting taking N518JS back to the West Coast again on my adventure. Please stay posted!!
